Falling behind on the latest marketing and advertising news? We’ve got your rundown of the must-read stories you need to know this week.

“It’s a Tide Ad” Returns

The P&G brand’s famous Super Bowl commercial theme is back. During Thursday Night Football last week, Tide employed commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, referees and players on both teams for a couple new versions of their “It’s a Tide Ad” series. In one ad, Philadelphia Eagles player Malcolm Jenkins gives his team a pep talk about having the cleanest jerseys, while in the second the referee issues a flag for “intentional cleanliness.”

The commercials are designed to look so similar to the actual game that it’s hard to tell whether it’s an advertisement. While the idea was a hit during the Super Bowl, reactions to the Thursday night commercial were mixed. Do you like this kind of native advertising, or do you think it’s confusing? Smirnoff Goes Non-GMO

Who says alcohol can’t be healthy? Last week, vodka brand Smirnoff announced their base vodka, Smirnoff No. 21, is now made with non-GMO grain. To introduce their new drink, Smirnoff is teaming up with celebrities like Ted Danson, Jenna Fischer and Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness for a “Welcome to the Fun%” campaign. The campaign focuses on inclusivity, affordability and health-consciousness.

This announcement follows the recent trend of healthier alcoholic beverage options, which have exploded in popularity with young drinkers and women. Find out more details here: https://www.marketingdive.com/news/smirnoff-promotes-non-gmo-push-with-celebrity-lineup/539268/

Facebook Introduces 3D Photos

If you thought portrait mode was cool, wait until you hear this. Facebook is rolling out what they call 3D photos to show depth behind portrait mode photos. To try it out, shoot a portrait mode picture and tap the 3D photo option in the status update when you upload the photo into Facebook. Users will be able to tap their screen and drag the photo different directions to see more depth.

The new feature uses AI to stitch together real layers from the photo and interpret what you would see if you did tilt your perspective. Facebook is the first social network to roll out this kind of feature. Do you think it will cause a resurgence in their popularity? https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/11/facebook-3d-photos/

World’s Most Responsible Companies

The Reputation Institute recently ranked the companies who displayed the best corporate responsibility this year. Google tops the list this year, despite facing major fines in Europe for breaking antitrust laws this summer. Other tech giants with major controversies didn’t see such favorable results. After facing various crises, Facebook dropped off the list entirely, while Apple dropped to number 88. The institute evaluated companies on social, fiscal, employer and environmental responsibility to arrive at their global top 100.
